Development of Methodology for Monitoring and Evaluation of Hydromorphological Characteristics of Watercourses (HYMOS)

The HYMOS project responds to the long-standing unsatisfactory situation in the field of monitoring of hydromorphological characteristics of flowing waters in the Czech Republic, as a sub-component of the assessment of the overall ecological status of water bodies, which is an obligation for EU Member States under the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC.
The main objective of the project is to develop a new methodological procedure and supporting software for the comprehensive assessment of the current hydromorphological status of water bodies, which will respect the requirements of the European Commission and will enable effective and sufficient quality monitoring.

The main benefits of the HYMOS project are:

  • Increased efficiency of the assessment of the ecological status/potential of water bodies.
  • Saving time and money in the assessment of water bodies as a duty of watercourse managers.
  • Implementation of the latest knowledge and current technical standards.
  • Use of up-to-date, high-resolution data to improve the quality of the assessment.

This project is funded with state support from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic under the Environment for Life Programme. The project is implemented in the period 01/2022-12/2024.
